Supervision: Supervised by Technical Director

Reports To: Stage Manager, Technical Director, and Lighting Designer

This position is on-call and activated on a show-by-show basis.

Overview: Under the guidance of the Technical Staff and Lighting Designer, the Spot Op operates the follow spotlight for specific productions. The position includes training, and once the show opens, the operator will perform during each performance. Attendance at crew orientation, tech rehearsals, and performances is expected.

Expectations:

• Attend tech rehearsals and performances as scheduled
• Report to the Stage Manager at the designated call time
• Operate the follow spot and execute cues as directed by the Stage Manager
• Adjust cues based on the Lighting Designer's directions

Qualifications:

• At least 1 year of Spotlight Operator or production lighting experience
• Excellent hand-eye coordination to follow moving targets smoothly and accurately
• Strong concentration and focus to maintain attention during performances
• Quick reaction time to stage changes and cue calls
• Physical stamina to operate the followspot for extended periods
• Basic technical knowledge of lighting equipment and functions

Responsibilities:

• Operate the spotlight, following actors on stage accurately throughout the performance
• Respond to cues from the lighting board to activate and adjust the spotlight as needed
• Maintain focus on actors, adjusting the spotlight's position and intensity as required
• Prepare the equipment before shows, including setup, alignment, and testing
• Collaborate with the lighting designer to realize the lighting design vision
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Stage Manager
