Apply for the Transaction Privilege Tax Auditor 3 position with the Arizona Department of Revenue.
OverviewAs a Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) Auditor 3, you will conduct audits and refund reviews, determine tax liabilities, prepare working papers, and conduct occasional field audits that may involve travel up to two weeks.
Responsibilities- Perform audits and refund reviews for all taxing jurisdictions subject to transaction privilege and use tax.
- Determine tax liabilities involving transaction privilege, excise, and use taxes.
- Prepare working papers, audit reports, and weekly reports.
- Conduct simple to average complex audit and refund reviews involving the accurate calculation and application of tax laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Inspect and examine returns, make determinations, and recommend returns of audits.
- Elicit clarifying information, accept evidence, evaluate testimony in a written decision, and prepare case files as necessary.
- Fully document audits to support the department's position and maintain the audit file in an orderly manner.
- Research complicated issues and resolve taxpayer appeals promptly, fairly, accurately, and consistently.
- Explain audit adjustments and conclusions to taxpayers and/or representatives.
- Educate taxpayers on tax law, rules, and regulations and ensure taxpayer compliance through the audit process.
- Conduct in‑person, in‑ and out‑of‑state field audits as assigned.
- Maintain current knowledge of all laws, regulations, policies, and best practices related to taxation through regular engagement in activities such as self‑directed research, conferences, and continuing education.
- Contribute to team and individual effectiveness by attending staff meetings, completing required training, participating in work teams, and preparing periodic metrics, projects, and reports.
- Prepare for and actively participate in 1:1 coaching with supervisor and maximize work processes and deliverables through lean principles within the Arizona Management System (AMS).
- Engage in continuous improvement efforts as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements for this role include analytical skills, strong knowledge of tax law and regulations, ability to travel up to two weeks for field audits, and proficiency in preparing audit documentation and reports.
