Position HighlightsA postdoctoral position is available to teach gross anatomy in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. The successful applicant will also pursue their own research interests and/or collaborate on research projects with current faculty.
Faculty Research Areas- Phylogenetics and mammalian paleontology
- Human and primate skeletal anatomy
- Paleo anthropology
- Bioarchaeology and paleopathology
- Vertebrate and invertebrate functional anatomy
- Teach anatomy to medical students in the Clinical Anatomy block, including laboratory instruction, workshops, select lectures, office hours, and competency evaluations.
- Teach Pathway Scholar graduate students in the Clinical Anatomy and Physiology Course, including laboratory instruction and workshops.
- Teach in the Advanced Clinical Anatomy elective for fourth-year medical students.
- Teach in the summer remediation anatomy course for medical students who fail the Clinical Anatomy block.
- Teach anatomy to high school students in community outreach programs.
- Help revise exam questions and set up/proctor practical exams.
- Provide review sessions in the anatomy laboratory prior to exams.
- Participate in continuing medical education courses in the anatomy laboratory.
- Contribute to additional educational needs of the department and college.
- Conduct research under the mentorship of the anatomy faculty.
- Submit research for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Present findings at departmental seminars and professional meetings.
- Knowledge of coordinating experiments and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation; strong team player.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
- Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.
- Knowledge of grant writing and manuscript preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.
- PhD in Anatomy, Biological Anthropology, Vertebrate Paleontology, or related field.
- Prior human anatomy teaching experience in a dissection-based course.
- Research interests in phylogenetics and mammalian paleontology; human and primate skeletal anatomy; paleoanthropology; bioarchaeology and paleopathology; or vertebrate/invertebrate functional anatomy.
