Position Summary

This position performs diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations and cardiology procedures to provide data for diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations, and licensing requirements.

Position Duties
  • Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
    Performs diagnostic cardiac sonography examinations on patients across the spectrum of congenital and acquired heart disease for interpretation by cardiologist. Determines proper technique and positioning to ensure optimal results in accordance with all applicable standards, protocols, and procedures. Performs or assists with transesophageal and transthoracic as required and per training and expertise.
    Maintains a safe environment for patients, families, and coworkers while performing all activities of the job.
  • Documents Preliminary Report
    Creates a detailed report of sonographer's impressions to include pertinent medical history, anatomic findings and measurements for presentation to interpreting physician. Report is clear, concise, and grammatically correct and utilizes appropriate spelling and punctuation.
    Performs finalizing functions using Syngo and/or Electronic Health Record to facilitate timely and accurate results, charge capture and archival of studies. Takes steps to quickly remedy identified errors and omissions using the chain of command as necessary.
  • Maintains Professional and Technical Competency
    Continues to pursue knowledge and self‑improvement by remaining apprised of current literature, practices, and new developments in the field. Attends staff meetings, participates in Phoenix Children’s educational offerings and off‑site conferences/seminars, and completes self‑directed learning to maintain continuing education credits as required.
  • Quality Improvement
    Participates in quality improvement initiatives and integrates feedback into daily practice with assistance of a mentor/preceptor as appropriate.
  • Care of Professional Environment and Equipment Maintenance
    Participates in cleaning, re‑stocking, and turnover of Cardio Diagnostic exam rooms and equipment. Identifies and troubleshoots malfunctions, reports service needs, and enters data in logs as required.
  • Miscellaneous Duties
    Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
Position Qualifications Education
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP or ACCSC accredited cardiac sonography program or equivalent. (Required)
Experience
  • Pediatric cardiac sonography clinical externship or two years full‑time adult cardiac sonography. (Required)
  • One year full‑time pediatric cardiac sonography. (Preferred)
Special Skills
  • Shares on‑call duties with peers after hours, on weekends, and holidays and works independently in satellite locations when skillfully able. (Required)
  • Demonstrates willingness to be flexible with work assignments to balance work among staff; must have readily available transportation for roving assignments. (Required)
  • Maintains a positive professional demeanor in stressful situations and represents Phoenix Children’s positively. Communicates professionally and effectively. (Required)

Additional Requirements
  • ARDMS RDCS‑Pediatric (RDCS PE) or CCI Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) obtained within 1 year of moving into position. (Required)
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association. (Required)
Certification / License / Registry Requirements for the Position
  • Basic Life Support – Required
  • Reg Congenital Cardiac Sonographer OR RCCS in 1 year OR Reg Diag Cardiac Sonographer Peds OR RDCS PE in 1 year OR Amer Reg Diag Med Sonography – Required
