Phoenix Children’s is seeking an experienced nursing leader to advance nursing science, evidence-based practice, and innovation across our organization. In this highly visible role, the Director of Nursing Research & Innovation will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of pediatric nursing research projects and nursing‑sensitive quality initiatives that improve clinical outcomes and elevate nursing practice. This leader will foster a culture of clinical inquiry, mentor nurses in research and evidence-based practice, and translate findings into practice to drive excellence in patient care.

The Director will collaborate with the CNO, nursing leadership, providers, and academic partners to set strategic research goals and develop innovative programs that support professional development and the transition to practice. Key Responsibilities
  • Lead nursing research and evidence‑based practice initiatives.
  • Drive quality improvement and nursing‑sensitive indicator outcomes.
  • Develop performance metrics and monitoring systems.
  • Partner with schools of nursing and academic affiliates on research and training opportunities.
  • Support policies, procedures, and continuous process improvement at the departmental and organizational level.
Position Duties
  • Work in conjunction with the leadership team to identify knowledge gaps and ensure solutions improve performance and patient outcomes.
  • Foster an environment of nursing clinical inquiry and evidence‑based practice.
  • Support the development of a practice environment conducive to the conduct and utilization/translation of nursing research.
  • Consult with nurses and other professionals regarding research and evidence‑based quality initiatives.
  • Direct development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing‑sensitive quality indicators and standards for clinical nursing practice.
  • Develop departmental performance and financial outcome measures, tracking and monitoring systems.
  • Direct, implement, and evaluate departmental, functional, and/or service‑related policies and procedures, and proactively assess program and service effectiveness.
  • Facilitate planning efforts for assigned areas, translating strategy into operational objectives and specific, measurable goals.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions and affiliates to develop innovative pediatric training programs and education opportunities.
  • Act as a liaison with local schools of nursing for research development.
  • Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.

Qualifications
  • Education: Doctor of Nursing Practice or Ph.D. (required).
  • Experience: Five (5) years of acute care clinical nursing experience with expertise applying principles of evidence‑based practice (required).
  • Licensing: Current State of Arizona RN License or from a compact state with multistate privileges, or ability to establish licensure according to Arizona law prior to start date (required).
  • Certification: National certification in area of specialty or related field (required).
