Position: Part-Time Faculty (MD, DO) - Simulation Center Instructor (College of Medicine-Phoenix)

Position Highlights

The Center for Simulation and Innovation (CSI) at the University of Arizona, College of Medicine-Phoenix is a state‑of‑the‑art healthcare simulation facility dedicated to continually improving health care through education, research, and advancement of clinical care. The 33,000 square‑foot campus features multiple mock hospital rooms, resuscitation bays, surgical, obstetric, and pediatric suites, debriefing rooms, and a myriad of high‑fidelity mannequins, simulators, and synthetic task trainers.

Members of the Simulation Faculty Pool will work alongside nationally recognized educators, researchers, and clinicians to develop an innovative simulation curriculum that enhances medical student education and improves patient care. Faculty also benefit from faculty development sessions geared toward bedside education, clinical assessment, and integration of advanced medical technologies.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Integrate simulation‑based training (SBT) into the four‑year medical curriculum, involving small‑group teaching, active discussions, debriefings, procedural training, and practice.
  • Participate in and facilitate simulation events throughout the academic year in collaboration with Simulation Curriculum Directors, Block, Clerkship, Theme, and Course Directors.
  • Develop, review, and organize simulation scenarios used to train medical students; coordinate facilitated debriefing sessions after each scenario.
  • Assist with recruitment and training of faculty volunteers for the simulation program.
  • Work a minimum of 25 hours and a maximum of 200 hours in simulation per academic year; encourage participation in Student Interest Groups and attend curricular events and committee meetings as needed.

Physical Demands:

  • Hear and listen attentively in a simulated environment with multiple auditory, visual, tactile, and verbal cues that require prompt responses.
  • Maintain vision for close tasks and computer use; interpret computer screens, patient monitors, and read labels on medications and equipment.
  • Stand or sit and facilitate a scenario for up to 5 hours at a time; in some events, perform procedures on mannequins and task trainers.
  • Meet the 25‑hour minimum and 200‑hour maximum requirement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or DO.
  • Board certified and licensed to practice medicine in Arizona.
  • In good standing with the medical board of their specialty.
  • Dedicated to patient‑centered medicine.
  • Available to work a minimum of 25 hours in simulation per academic year.
  • Non‑faculty applicants must obtain faculty status upon selection, including letters of recommendation and review by the college review committee.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Practicing clinician in a medical or surgical specialty aligned with the simulation content.
  • Previous experience with medical student or graduate medical education.
  • Experience teaching simulation.
  • Demonstrates teamwork skills and effective communication in a healthcare setting.
  • At least one year of technical experience working remotely or virtually using video‑conferencing software, preferably Zoom.
