Position SummarySpeech and Language Pathologist (SLP) – Responsible for providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders, helping them access the general education curriculum.
Responsibilities- Participate in intake meetings and review paperwork to identify students who qualify for Speech and Language Services.
- Screen and evaluate students, share results with parents and educational staff, and participate in the eligibility determination process during Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) meetings.
- Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEPs) for students who qualify for services.
- Provide case‑management duties for students with Speech‑Language Impairment only.
- Supervise and collaborate with Speech and Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) and interns as requested.
- Consult with school staff, demonstrating techniques and working with teams to facilitate interventions and skill generalization.
- Schedule students and provide direct therapeutic services related to speech, language, communication, swallowing disorders, and behavioral management strategies to enhance learning.
- Provide information, support, and counseling to parents about therapy plans and progress.
- Maintain cooperative professional relationships with administrators and school staff.
- Maintain and submit required records, including student progress notes.
- Participate in Speech Pathology Collaborative team meetings and other district meetings.
- Engage in professional growth activities or workshops to maintain state and national certification.
- Communicate with community agencies that provide Speech‑Language Pathology Services.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Hold a master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from an accredited program.
- Prior experience working with youth in a school setting and knowledge of IEP development.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Current license to practice speech therapy in the State of Arizona.
- Current Speech and Language Pathologist‑Certificate of Clinical Competency (SLP‑CCC) license from the Arizona Department of Education and Health Services.
- Certification by the American Speech‑Language‑Hearing Association.
- Arizona VICP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- First Aid/CPR preferred.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, city, and district statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to learn special methods and procedures specific to working with high‑school‑aged students.
- Understand physical access, participation, posture, movement skills, mobility, assessment, and maintenance of physical health, as well as transition to postsecondary living and assistive technology.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co‑workers, vendors, students, parents, and the general public.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
