Position Overview
Sr. Histotechnologist responsible for performing highly skilled histology and operational activities in a fast‑paced, complex environment. Requires excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication, ability to multitask, flexibility with tasks and schedules, and capacity to work independently within a team.
Essential Duties- Perform complex and non‑routine histology procedures including cutting, microtomy, H&E staining of patient specimens, and execution of IHC assays with appropriate controls.
- Assist with writing new procedures and revising existing procedures.
- Prepare the department for CAP inspections and maintain knowledge of the CAP Anatomic Checklist.
- Act as a technical resource and respond to workplace questions and concerns.
- Provide day‑to‑day direction and guidance to Histotechnologists.
- Assess peer competency as needed.
- Assist with new employee orientation and training.
- Maintain stringent quality standards, identify issues impacting test results or employee safety, and communicate promptly to management.
- Conduct and document qualification of incoming reagent lots and instrumentation.
- Monitor and process the histology queue for various tasks, performing them independently or with minimal supervision.
- Perform macrodissection of unstained slides based on pathologist markings.
- Prepare reagents, solutions, and controls.
- Interact with pathologists and support laboratory staff per standard operating procedures to ensure timely, high‑quality specimen processing.
- Assist with coordination of pharma services clients on the execution of clinical research projects.
- Identify opportunities for histology process improvements, including laboratory workflows and associated SOPs.
- Assist in equipment specification, installation, maintenance, and calibration.
- Provide summary reports on process metrics as needed.
- Contribute to preparation and participation in internal and external inspections and audits.
- Apply and integrate feedback professionally.
- Provide and receive open, regular feedback and adjust accordingly.

- Perform tasks requiring bimanual dexterity, such as gripping, pinching, turning, and reaching above shoulder height.
- Comply with all applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
- Use laboratory equipment including H&E and IHC stainers, microtomes, tissue water baths, embedding stations, cryostats, and cover slippers.
- Perform repetitive actions with laboratory tools.
- Use near vision to view samples at close range.
- Accept potential exposure to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high‑speed centrifugation.
- Use various chemicals to perform duties.
- Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program with 6+ years of laboratory experience (one year of experience can be counted from program completion).
- Or High School diploma with 8+ years of laboratory experience.
- Or Associate Degree in a scientific field with 6+ years of laboratory experience.
- Or Bachelor Degree in a scientific field with 4+ years of laboratory experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to perform essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- HT (ASCP) or HLT (ASCP) certification.
