Position Summary
The WIC Trainer plays a key role in building staff confidence and competency by delivering engaging, hands‑on training in nutrition, breastfeeding, client services, and the language of care. This position supports new and existing staff through classroom instruction, one‑on‑one mentoring, computer‑based modules, and on‑the‑job demonstrations. The WIC Trainer models best practices, provides real‑time feedback during observations, and ensures staff meet State competency requirements prior to certification.
By fostering a supportive learning environment, the WIC Trainer promotes professional growth, consistency in service delivery, and adherence to WIC policies. This role works closely with the Training Coordinator and management team to align training with program goals and travels to all Adelante WIC locations to provide consistent training and staff support.
- Conduct engaging training sessions in nutrition, breastfeeding, client services, and language of care through classroom instruction, mentoring, computer‑based modules, and on‑the‑job demonstrations.
- Guide new employees through the training plan by modeling WIC procedures, answering questions, and providing real‑time feedback during observations and client interactions.
- Ensure staff demonstrate competency in assigned skills prior to certification, in accordance with State policy.
- Act as a role model, demonstrating excellent customer service, client‑centered communication, and professional standards.
- Assess staff performance during training, offering constructive feedback and encouragement for continued growth.
- Communicate observations and recommendations regarding staff progress to Site Supervisors or Site Leaders.
- Evaluate training sessions by gathering feedback and observing effectiveness to ensure staff understand and apply knowledge correctly.
- Identify opportunities for additional training or skill reinforcement to maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of WIC policies, breastfeeding promotion, and nutrition education.
- Attend state‑required trainings or meetings as designated for Trainers.
- Collaborate with the Training Coordinator and management team to align training activities with program needs and goals.
- Travel to all Adelante WIC locations to provide consistent, hands‑on training and support.
- Other duties as requested or assigned.
- Certification to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the Health Care Professional (CPR) and AED, following guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross.
- Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations.
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition.
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License.
- Minimum of 2 years of related experience, including direct WIC services.
- Knowledge of breastfeeding and lactation.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design.
Employees may be required to sit for long periods, stand, walk, use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms, climb steps, maintain balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Employees must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
While performing duties, employees are exposed to weather conditions when traveling to clinic sites. The noise level is usually moderate. Employees may be subject to health hazards such as contagious diseases and blood‑borne pathogens in clinic areas.
