Job Description
The Medical Records Technician has the primary responsibility for maintaining health information and files, including electronic health records. The role ensures the highest quality of care for all clients and compliance with the Privacy Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and the Release of Information policy.
Key Accountabilities
- Monitors health information and records
- Processes requests for release of information from the medical record
- Monitors the scanning process into electronic health records
- Supports organization as needed
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of the requirements of the Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act, and Release of Information policy
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology
- Knowledge of quality assurance systems and methods
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work closely with others
- Ability to understand and execute complex written and verbal instructions
- Exceptional computer, organizational, and planning skills
- Ability to react effectively and calmly in emergencies
- Ability to maintain customer confidentiality
- Capability to work under rigorous pressure and meet close deadlines
- Understanding of Native American culture and experience working with diverse ethnic groups
Qualifications, Experience, and Requirements
- Associate degree minimum or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) required
- Position requires lifting, bending, and reaching as part of duties
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
Standard Employment Requirements
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state; no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years, no more than two at‑fault accidents in the last three years, and must maintain a valid license during employment; must be insurable under NATIVE HEALTH’s liability auto policy
- Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within 90 calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed
- Must pass substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during employment
- Must provide an updated immunization (IZ) record at the time of employment
- Must have a current Tuberculosis (TB) skin report within 12 months upon employment and provide an annual update
- Must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment
