We are seeking individuals qualified to work as a Phlebotomist to support the mission of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Phoenix, AZ.

- Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures
- Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings
- Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment
- Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers
- Maintain laboratory equipment
- Operate laboratory equipment to analyze samples
- Analyze laboratory findings
- Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures
- Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data
- Monitor operational procedures in technical environments to ensure conformance to standards
- Interpret research or operational data
- Record research or operational data
- Perform phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture and finger sticks, on participants in all protocols being conducted by PECRB, DECRS
- Perform laboratory measurements of serum and urine for the following analyses:
Glucose, Creatinine, Total Cholesterol, HDL-Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Uric Acid, Insulin, Hb A1c - Evaluate samples delivered to the laboratory by others collecting samples at other sites
- Inventory, label, process and store samples according to established protocols; organize daily laboratory samples for protocols
- Analyze samples for laboratory reports, including chemistry testing, immunoassay testing and HPLC procedures
- Process samples for future genetic testing
- Coordinate various laboratory inventories
- Update the laboratory database as samples are measured; maintain inventory of stored samples to be pulled for future testing
- Provide laboratory reports for patient records
- Minimum of four (4) years of laboratory experience
- Master’s degree in Biology, Life Sciences or related discipline; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a Master’s degree
- ASCP (MLS/MT/SBB) certification or equivalent Medical Technician certification required
- Strong knowledge of transfusion medicine principles and blood bank techniques
- Proficiency in quality assurance and compliance with FDA, AABB, and CLIA standards
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Effective communication (oral and written) and collaboration in multidisciplinary teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams)
