Role SummaryThe Principal Data Engineer / Data Architect will serve as a senior, hands‑on technical resource supporting a public‑sector financial system. This role focuses on data architecture, data engineering, and data integration while supporting ongoing system enhancements, performance optimization, and the establishment of foundational data management practices.
Required Qualifications- Minimum 8-10+ years of hands‑on experience in data engineering and/or data architecture
- Advanced expertise in relational databases, including data modeling and performance tuning
- Experience supporting full‑stack application environments
- Strong experience with data integrations and APIs
- Proven experience supporting production‑grade financial or transactional systems
- Experience supporting post‑implementation or post‑go‑live system enhancements
- Ability to operate independently as a senior technical resource
- Experience working in public‑sector or regulated environments
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
- Experience with public‑sector financial, revenue, or accounting systems
- Exposure to cloud or hybrid data architectures
- Familiarity with data governance, data quality, and master data management concepts
- Experience working in agile or iterative delivery environments
A. Data Engineering & Architecture
- Design, implement, and maintain relational data models for transactional and reporting use cases
- Develop, optimize, and maintain SQL‑based data objects (tables, views, stored procedures, indexes)
- Support data access and integration within a full‑stack application environment
- Design and implement data interfaces and services to enable system integrations
- Perform database performance tuning, diagnostics, and optimization
- Ensure data validation, reconciliation, and auditability requirements are met
- Support enhancements and feature development for an existing production system
- Participate in backlog refinement, technical design, and implementation of data components
- Provide production support and resolve issues related to data quality, performance, and integrity
- Support testing, deployment, and post‑release stabilization activities
- Assist in defining and documenting data management standards and best practices
- Develop reusable templates, patterns, and reference implementations
- Support the introduction of data governance and stewardship concepts aligned with organizational maturity
- Create documentation and provide knowledge transfer to support long‑term sustainability
