Data Engineer – Adelante Healthcare

POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Engineer will build scalable, trusted, and secure data models and pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and operations across our healthcare organization. The role plays a critical part in delivering validated, governed, and actionable data products that drive decision‑making throughout the business.

DESCRIPTION

The position involves end‑to‑end ownership of data workflows, including ingestion, transformation, modeling, and delivery. It requires strong proficiency in SQL and Python, and deep experience with Azure data services such as Synapse, Data Factory, Logic Apps, and Microsoft Fabric. The Data Engineer applies continuous validation at every stage and maintains clear, collaborative communication with both stakeholders and technical team members to ensure data accuracy, alignment, and reliability.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for large‑scale data transformation, query optimization, and schema development.
  • Advanced Python skills for scripting ETL/ELT logic, validation routines, automation, and integration.
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable, maintainable pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, and Logic Apps.
  • Expertise in data modeling (normalized and dimensional, star/snowflake, surrogate keys, SCD handling).
  • Experience with robust data validation and quality frameworks.
  • Proficient with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Logic Apps.
  • Knowledge of data security practices and compliance (HIPAA/PHI), including RBAC, RLS, and secure delivery.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure‑as‑code using Azure Dev Ops or Git Hub Actions.
  • Ability to deliver analytics‑ready datasets via Microsoft Fabric Lake houses and Power BI.
  • Experience supporting Power BI development with validated semantic models and row‑level security.
  • Other skills: CPR, fingerprint clearance, prioritization, cultural competency, and independent judgment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain robust data pipelines that ingest, transform, validate, and deliver data.
  • Design data models aligned with business use cases supporting high‑performance reporting and analytics.
  • Implement data validation logic to ensure trust and accuracy.
  • Automate workflows using Logic Apps and Data Factory for real‑time and batch use cases.
  • Ensure pipeline observability, logging, and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with analysts, BI developers, and stakeholders to translate requirements.
  • Provision secure, governed access via role‑based controls and RLS.
  • Participate in Dev Ops workflows for version‑controlled deployments.
  • Publish curated datasets to Power BI work spaces and Fabric Lake houses.
  • Maintain documentation, data dictionaries, and flow diagrams.

NON‑ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7). Clinical data or claims experience.
  • Metadata management tools (Microsoft Purview).
  • Machine learning pipelines (Synapse ML, Azure ML, Databricks).
  • Delta Lake or lakehouse optimization (schema evolution, time travel).
  • Performance tuning for large‑scale BI environments.
  • Data architecture leadership and mentorship.
  • Advanced data privacy techniques (differential privacy, anonymization).
  • Cross‑cloud or hybrid‑cloud integration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role requires sitting for long periods, standing, walking, using hands, reaching, climbing steps, and touching objects. It may involve lifting up to 25 lbs without assistance or up to 50 lbs with assistance. Environmental hazards include weather conditions, moderate noise, and potential exposure to blood borne pathogens.
