Job Summary

The Senior Database Administrator will support the Arizona Department of Health Services WIC Program's automated management information system, Health and Nutrition Delivery System (HANDS) a .net application. Responsibilities include logical and physical database design, analysis of requirements, development of database modification specifications, monitoring outside contractor performance, understanding database internals, outlining corrective actions for technical problems, database patching, and documenting all database modifications.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze WIC user needs and database requirements.
  • Analyze database scripts and logic; assist with debugging and recommend performance improvements; supervise scripting; coordinate with internal and external database support teams; provide training and guidance to other staff.
  • Analyze database performance, design logic, physical database structures, and monitor installation, maintenance, and upgrading of the database on multiple platforms.
  • Assist users with acceptance testing, oversee design of testing databases, and approve code changes.
  • Communicate effectively with all users, application support/development teams, supervisors, and others; participate in weekly technical discussions.
  • Support Oracle and Discoverer users; assist with planning, training of WIC staff, and provide efficient customer service in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (5%–10%).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
  • Effective understanding of confidentiality and privacy standards of Public Health Information.
  • Knowledge of current database technology, internal database theory, Unix/Linux and Windows operating systems, application programming techniques, documentation procedures, and data management skills.
  • Familiarity with Health Services policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), and Lean methodologies.
Skill In
  • Analyzing system requirements and capabilities.
  • Using a wide variety of database tools to support ADHS database activities.
  • Using programming and job control languages specific to the assignment.
  • Analyzing and resolving technical problems effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability To
  • Prioritize and plan work activities.

Selective Preference(s)

Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5+ years of experience in database administration (or equivalent).

Pre-Employment Requirements
  • Must possess a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to A.R.S. 36-113.
  • Must successfully complete E-Verify Employment Eligibility Verification.
