About This PositionThe Phoenix Fire Department Technical Services section is a customer service-driven section that provides technical solutions and support to the Phoenix Fire Department and 29 fire and medical agencies located throughout the valley, forming the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Consortium. The Technical Services team provides technology planning, implementation, and support for specific applications and systems required to meet the growing needs of the Phoenix Fire Department and its dispatch partners.
The City of Phoenix is seeking a highly technical and motivated individual to act as a Senior Network Engineer in a supervisory and architect role with responsibility of overseeing the overall network associated with Phoenix Fire and Emergency Medical Dispatch Services, including the two (2) Phoenix Fire Department Regional Dispatch Centers (PFDRDC). The position's areas of responsibility include networking to support systems used by Phoenix Fire Dispatch, First Responders, PFD management, and our Dispatch partners to improve public safety services.
This position works Monday through Friday and may work more than forty (40) hours without additional compensation to perform assigned duties, which can include weekends, evenings, early morning hours, and/or holidays. Employees in this position are required to participate in a 24/7 on-call standby rotation.
Responsibilities- Design, implement, and manage Cisco Catalyst, Cisco Nexus, Palo Alto Networks based network infrastructure, including routers, switches and firewalls for Fire Department's CAD network.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues, ensuring high availability and performance of the network.
- Perform network configurations, upgrades, and patch management on network devices.
- Monitor network performance and conduct routine network health checks to identify and mitigate issues proactively.
- Provide technical leadership, supervision and mentorship to junior network engineers and other team members.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network-related projects, deployment of new services, and technologies including management of third party vendors.
- Conduct capacity planning, performance analysis, and assist in the development of network scalability strategies.
- Work with network monitoring tools to track and analyze network traffic and performance metrics.
- Ensure network security best practices are followed and recommend enhancements to safeguard the network from vulnerabilities and threats.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation on network architecture, configurations, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Provide excellent customer service for Fire Department staff, vendors, stakeholders and partners.
- Assist the IT Manager in developing annual operating budget and Capital Improvement Plan for network infrastructure components.
- Perform other duties as related to information technology systems.
Pay Range: $93,121 - $131,040 annually.
Hiring Range: $93,121 - $118,872 annually.
Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.
Please understand that this is pay grade 067. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
