Position: Program Director – APR Digital Tools
POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to APR’s Chief Operating Officer, the Program Director – APR Digital Tools will lead the ongoing management, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) Design® Guide for Plastics Recyclability and the APR Design Assessment Tools. This role is responsible for ensuring that the Design Guide remains accurate, current, and accessible, while maintaining a structured internal database of technical guidance, revisions, and supporting information.

The Program Director will also serve as APR’s primary point of contact for clients using the APR Design Assessment Tool, providing guidance and supporting effective tool utilization. Working closely with Recyda, the role will oversee tool maintenance, updates, and enhancements to ensure alignment with APR’s technical guidance, program objectives, and evolving industry needs including the continued growth of the program.

This position requires strong program management, organizational, technical communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, along with an understanding of plastics recycling, packaging design, and design for recyclability principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES APR Design® Guide Management

Manage the ongoing maintenance and periodic updates of the APR Design® Guide for Plastics Recyclability online tool including foreign language translations and copyrights.

Coordinate the review, revision, and incorporation of new or updated technical guidance, ensuring consistency with APR’s established criteria and industry developments.

Maintain a comprehensive change log documenting any revisions and updates.

Coordinate with internal subject matter experts and relevant stakeholders to review proposed changes and ensure technical accuracy.

Support the publication and communication of updated guidance to ensure users have access to the most current information.

Develop, manage, and maintain an internal database to organize and store technical guidance, assessment criteria, supporting documentation, and related reference materials.

APR Design Assessment Tool Management

Work closely with Recyda to oversee the day-to-day management and ongoing improvement of the APR Design Assessment Tool, including communicating any revisions to rulesets or updates to the APR Design Guide.

Serve as APR’s primary point of contact for clients, responding to questions, providing guidance on tool use, and coordinating client needs.

Provide an introduction of Tiers 1 and 2 of the assessment tool to prospective clients, and hand off clients to Recyda for Tier 3 as needed.

Coordinate the resolution of client questions, technical issues, and requests for tool improvements.

Maintain and develop training material for the Assessment Tool available to subscribers through the Recyda platform.

Monitor recurring user feedback and identify opportunities to improve the tool’s usability, accuracy, and effectiveness.

Ensure that tool content remains aligned with the current APR Design® Guide and applicable program requirements.

Present the Assessment Tool in informational webinars, in person events, and other meetings as needed.

Develop content for press releases and website promotion as needed and maintain the Assessment Tool landing page on the APR Website.

QUALIFICATIONS Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as packaging science, materials science, engineering, environmental science, sustainability, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

Experience in program or project management, technical content management, database administration, or management of technical tools and resources.
