Azure Engineer (VM Migrations & Infrastructure) – Contractor, Outside IR35
Engagement type:
Ad-hoc contract work via your own Limited Company
Location:
Fully remote
Coreitech is an IT services provider supporting SMEs across a range of sectors. We're looking for an experienced Azure engineer to take on infrastructure migration and project work on an as-needed basis. Work is sporadic and project-led – it picks up when a client moves on-prem workloads to the cloud or needs their Azure estate reworked, and goes quiet in between – so this suits someone running their own consultancy or working with other clients.
Typicalpieces of work
- On-prem to Azure server migrations – Hyper-V and VMware workloads using Azure Migrate, Azure Site Recovery or lift-and-shift methods
- Migrating legacy servers (file servers, application servers, SQL, RDS/terminal servers) to Azure VMs or appropriate PaaS alternatives
- Azure landing zone design for SMEs – subscriptions, resource groups, naming, tagging and cost controls
- Networking – VNets, subnets, NSGs, VPN gateways, site-to-site and point-to-site VPNs, Express Route where needed
- Azure Virtual Desktop deployments and migrations away from on-prem RDS
- Hybrid identity – Entra Connect, Entra Domain Services and domain controllers in Azure
- Backup, disaster recovery and Azure Site Recovery configuration
- Right-sizing, reserved instances and cost optimisation reviews
- Decommissioning on-prem hardware post-migration
- Documentation and handover for each environment delivered
- Proven track record of delivering server-to-Azure migrations end to end – discovery, dependency mapping, cutover and post-migration tidy-up
- Strong Azure IaaS skills – VMs, managed disks, availability sets/zones, storage accounts, Azure Files
- Solid understanding of Azure networking and how it connects back to on-prem
- Hands-on experience with Azure Migrate and Azure Site Recovery
- Good Windows Server, Active Directory and Hyper-V/VMware background
- Able to plan cutovers around client downtime windows and communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable with Power Shell, Azure CLI or Bicep/ARM for repeatable builds
- MSP or multi-client experience preferred
- Microsoft certifications (AZ-104, AZ-305, AZ-140 or similar) desirable
Engaged per project under a contract for services, with a defined scope and deliverables
You control how and when the work is done, within agreed cutover dates and deadlines
You supply your own equipment and are free to work for other clients
Right of substitution applies
Limited Company and appropriate insurances (professional indemnity, public liability) required
(If this job is in fact in your jurisdiction, then you may be using a Proxy or VPN to access this site, and to progress further, you should change your connectivity to another mobile device or PC).
