Job Summary
The Project Superintendent (PS) plans, coordinates, and supervises field and administrative operations of projects. The PS provides technical direction and is responsible for safety, costs, productivity, profitability, and overall quality of work. They establish productivity goals, schedule labor, materials, and equipment, including subcontractor work, and may supervise multiple field superintendents. This role has progressive steps: I for projects up to $20M with 3‑5 years of experience, II for $20‑$50M with 5‑10 years of experience.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in reviewing shop drawings, submittals, subcontract change orders, and purchase orders.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop the project management plan (PMP), including scope, procurement, environmental, time, financial, quality, safety, and risk plans.
- Conduct weekly coordination meetings with project teams and subcontractors; prepare daily field status reports.
- Document constructability issues, potential design conflicts, and clarifications with relevant personnel.
- Develop and manage the construction plan for successful execution of work.
- Ensure work is executed according to contract terms in a profitable manner.
- Interact effectively with owners, teams, and stakeholders to maintain a positive project environment and client experience.
- Manage field operations, ensuring project success in profitability, safety, schedule, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Prepare and update the original CPM project schedule; keep the schedule current using LEAN processes and weekly work plans.
- Prevent claims, identify potential claims, quantify, document, and mitigate/resolve them in a timely manner.
- Provide leadership and guidance to project team members and subcontractors; plan, review, develop, and manage the team.
- Develop and implement the project quality management and safety plans per Sundt standards.
- Ensure timely completion of all punch lists and develop a schedule for the successful start‑up and commissioning of all systems.
Job Requirements
- Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills.
- Four‑year engineering degree or equivalent technical training/experience.
- Thorough knowledge of all construction aspects—technology, equipment, methods, negotiations, engineering, cost control, scheduling, safety.
- Construction project and supervisory experience in similar facilities.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment, e.g., steel‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest.
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist frequently; stoop, kneel, or bend occasionally.
- May use telephone, computer, email, or other electronic devices for limited communication.
- Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
- Occasionally climb stairs, ladders, etc.; use hands frequently to grasp, lift, handle, carry, or feel objects.
- Interact with people frequently during a shift.
- Lift, push, or pull objects occasionally; sit, stand, or walk short distances for the duration of a shift.
