Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering
Mattur is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Manufacturing to build and scale our end‑to‑end manufacturing capabilities across both in‑house operations and external partners. This leader will own the development of our manufacturing strategy and will design, optimize, and implement the processes required to bring our energy systems into scaled production. They will oversee layout planning, process development, equipment selection, and team building, while also managing relationships with suppliers, fabricators, and contract manufacturers to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective, and reliable production.
This position reports directly to the CEO and will work closely with engineering and product teams to ensure seamless transition from design to production and ongoing manufacturing excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manufacturing Strategy, Planning & Process Design
- Define the overall manufacturing strategy, including what is built internally versus through contract manufacturers.
- Develop scalable production processes and workflows informed by prototype builds and engineering insights.
- Lead facility layout and equipment planning to support efficient material flow, assembly operations, and quality inspection.
- Ensure manufacturing readiness for pilot builds and volume production.
- Identify, qualify, and manage suppliers, fabricators, and contract manufacturers to support prototype, pilot, and high‑volume builds.
- Establish strong supplier relationships to ensure quality, cost, delivery performance, and long‑term scalability.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and performance expectations with key vendors and manufacturing partners.
- Implement supplier quality programs, including audits, scorecards, and corrective actions.
- Develop contingency plans and dual‑sourcing strategies to mitigate supply‑chain risk.
3. Process Optimization, DFM & Scale‑Up
- Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for consistent, high‑quality manufacturing.
- Drive continuous improvement using lean principles, throughput analysis, and workflow optimization.
- Partner with engineering to drive design‑for‑manufacturability (DFM), cost reduction, ease‑of‑assembly improvements, and certification‑ready product designs.
- Ensure manufacturing processes, documentation, and controls meet the requirements of UL, EPA, and other relevant certifications.
- Evaluate and implement automation and tooling investments that increase efficiency, repeatability, and safety.
- Ensure successful transfer of processes and documentation to contract manufacturers where applicable.
4. Team Leadership & Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Build and lead a high‑performing manufacturing organization, including hiring, training, and developing team members.
- Coordinate tightly with engineering team to ensure smooth transition from design to production.
- Set a high standard of safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across all manufacturing activities.
5. Production Planning & Quality Assurance
- Develop production plans and capacity models to meet demand as the company scales.
- Oversee production execution—whether in‑house or through contract manufacturers—to ensure delivery targets are met.
- Implement and manage quality control systems, including incoming inspection, in‑process checks, and final testing.
- Ensure all manufactured products meet regulatory and certification requirements, including traceability, documentation, and compliance testing.
- Establish and track manufacturing KPIs covering throughput, yield, cost, uptime, and quality performance.
Qualifications:
- Establish and track manufacturing KPIs covering throughput, yield, cost, uptime, and quality performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent hands‑on experience.
- 7–10+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, including scaling production from prototype to pilot to high‑volume manufacturing (beyond simple assembly).
- Experience in facility layout, process design, and workflow optimization for electromechanical or industrial hardware products.
- Demonstrated ability to drive design‑for‑manufacturability (DFM) in…
