As a Prep & Finish Technician
, you’ll have the responsibility of fitting and assembling machined metal parts, verifying dimensions of products and manually aligning components for assembly.
What you’ll do:
- Read and interpret specification manuals, blueprints, templates, and layouts for product specifications such as tooling instructions, tolerances and dimensions.
- Translate instructions into actions.
- Read and understand a router that details what needs to be completed on each part.
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and sub-assemblies using hand and power tools.
- Manually align components for assembly and bolts, screws, dowels or rivets complex series of parts together.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Inspect quality and accuracy of run work.
- Sets up and operate test equipment (e.g., pressure test).
- Participate in continuous improvement of cell processes.
- Cross train in other complementary skills and seek endorsement for those skills as needed to support production requirements.
- Move between production assignments that utilize multiple skills endorsements as needed to support production requirements.
- Participate in the cross training of other technicians as needed to support production requirements.
- Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
- Carries out other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret blueprints.
- Ability in reading, understanding, and writing in English.
- Experience in working with precision measuring instruments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (unassisted) for approximately 25% of the average work day.
- Regularly required to sit for prolonged periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of related company instructions, company processes, rework process instructions, original equipment manufacturer manuals, and MSDS labels.
- Working knowledge of production management computer systems and other related internal control systems.
- Specialized training in machine shop practices.
