Location: The Salvation Army - Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center - Phoenix, Arizona

Status: Full time / Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Youth Ministry Lead is responsible for all youth ministries at The Kroc center, including programming, outreach, and administration assignments. This role will develop and implement a growing evangelism and discipleship ministry targeted to youth in the Phoenix South Mountain and surrounding areas within The Salvation Army’s programs, policies, and practices. The Youth Ministry Lead will serve as a bridge between the Community Center and the Church, and will be present at Kroc Center activities (e.g., sports league games, after-school programs, open gym, open swim, game room, and lobby) to foster personal evangelism and build relationships with community members.

The Lead will lead devotions for Kroc Center sports teams and prayer at league games, and will create additional avenues to bring the mission into after-school and evening activities, including outreach and invitations to un-churched members.

Qualifications
  • Uniformed Salvationist preferred.
  • A secondary degree in Christian Ministry, Religious Education, Counseling, or related field, or a minimum of two years’ experience leading church youth programming and ministries.
  • Experience in evangelism, mentoring, and discipleship.
  • Ability to work with youth from diverse backgrounds and under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment with sensitive information.
  • Proficient organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, Email, Internet, and standard office equipment.
  • Valid Arizona commercial driver’s license and insured transportation (if not, must obtain within two months of hire).
  • Certification by and participation in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program annually.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED; if not current, certification must be obtained within two months of hire.
  • Commitment to nurturing youth toward a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • Self-motivated and able to take projects from start to completion.
  • Ability to work in a Christian environment and uphold high standards of leadership and integrity; support and promote The Salvation Army mission.
  • Compliance with The Salvation Army Protecting The Mission and Child Safety Policies in all programs and facilities; willing to pass a background check.
Responsibilities
  • Develop an annual calendar of events and activities to build relationships with youth and families.
  • Maintain a weekly calendar for strategic presence in Kroc Center programs to develop relationships with youth and families.
  • Provide leadership to youth Sunday programs, including attendance promotion, recruiting and training teachers, and planning/teaching classes or assemblies as needed.
  • Lead mid-week youth programs including Creative Ministries and Troops.
  • Organize and lead teen fellowship and spiritual development activities.
  • Assist with seasonal activities (e.g., Christmas Red Kettle) as directed.
  • Utilize Kroc Squad, Day Camp, Vacation Bible School, open houses, and other events as outreach.
  • Plan and implement special events (e.g., Teens U-Night, VBS) to engage youth in Corps fellowship.
  • Reach out to youth/families in the community through various means and follow up with attendees and families.
  • Submit event planning/implementation outcome reports to the Corps Assistant & Mission Integration Coordinator.
  • Assist in ensuring the Salvation Army mission is reflected in Kroc Center programs and activities.
  • Fulfill Summer youth camp roles and provide transportation to/from Camp Ponderosa Ranch as needed.
