The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant has advanced health assessment and decision‑making skills, cultivated through a formal educational program that meets professional criteria, and is certified by an approved certifying body. The role involves working collaboratively with physicians and other health‑care professionals to provide continuous care for assigned patients. Responsibilities include but are not limited to comprehensive assessment, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmacological and non‑pharmacological therapies, teaching and counseling individuals and families, monitoring therapeutic interventions, making appropriate referrals, and performing minor procedures approved by the Arizona Regulatory Board of Physician Assistants.
The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of life‑span development principles, interpret patient data accurately, and lead through committee participation, education, research, and continuous practice improvement initiatives. Active participation in professional organizations and community activities is expected. Practice standards are guided by the ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Advanced Practice Registered Nursing, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and Arizona State Board of Nursing regulations.
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner: Masters‑prepared graduate of an accredited nursing school and NP program. Current Arizona RN and APRN license and certification as an ACNP.
- Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited PA program with current NCNA certification and registration as a PA by the Arizona State Board of Medical Practice.
- Active BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross at the start date.
- DEA registration required.
