Seeking an experienced clinical critical care RN leader with at least 5 years of direct bedside experience. This leadership role focuses on clinical expertise in the ED specialty, mentoring, quality improvement and enabling nurses to practice at the highest standards. The Clinical Nurse Attending does not have formal direct reports but provides leadership through subject‑matter expertise, collaboration and practice change influence.
ResponsibilitiesClinical Expertise
- Facilitate nursing interventions based on risk anticipation and evidence to improve outcomes.
- Assist with change initiatives to eliminate discrepancies between practice and standards of care.
- Assess health‐risk discrepancies in individualized care plans.
- Use best available evidence to drive practice change for quality, safety and fiscal responsibility.
- Utilize performance tools (dashboards, reports) to access real‑time patient statistics and apply evidence‐based interventions.
- Coach, delegate and support team members in safe, competent nursing procedures.
- Mentor new and experienced nurses and other team members.
Quality Improvement & Safety
- Evaluate patient handoffs and transitions of care.
- Communicate current quality and safety guidelines and nurse‑sensitive indicators to the interprofessional team, patients and caregivers.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners to plan and implement care.
- Promote a safety culture using high‑reliability principles.
Information Technology and Data
- Collect and utilize data to generate evidence for practice.
- Provide input in designing data resources that generate meaningful evidence.
- Interpret patterns and trends in data to evaluate outcomes and benchmark against recognized standards.
- Use performance measures and IT to assess and improve evidence‑based practice delivery.
Organizational and Systems Leadership
- Collaborate within the healthcare team to focus on patient‑centered care delivery.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice nurses, nurse managers and others to plan, implement and evaluate improvement opportunities.
- Participate in a shared leadership model to recommend care delivery improvements.
Collaboration and Communication
- Lead group dynamics and manage group conflicts.
- Demonstrate professional and effective communication skills (verbal, written, virtual).
- Facilitate integration of services across the continuum to influence, achieve and sustain high quality care.
- Facilitate collaborative, interprofessional approaches in coordination and evaluation of patient‑centered care.
- Support transitions across care settings for patients and families.
- Advocate for patients within the system to effect quality, safety, and value‑based outcomes.
Health Promotion
- Engage in multi‑level partnerships to coordinate prevention and health promotion interventions across care environments.
- Implement strategies to encourage a culture of inquiry within the team.
- Disseminate practice changes and improvements to internal and external audiences.
Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – Required.
- Master’s degree in a related field – Preferred.
Experience
- Five or more years of related experience in a healthcare setting – Required.
Special Skills
- Effective communication and positive customer‑relations skills – Required.
Additional Requirements
- Current AZ RN license or equivalent compact state license – Required.
- National certification in specialty or related field within the first 6 months – Required.
- Current BLS certification – Required.
Certification / License / Registry Requirements
- AMA/NP AC Board, Certified Nephrology Nurse, Certified Registered Nurse, CCI, Critical Care RN (AACN), Critical Care RN Neonatal, Certified Emergency Nurse, among others – Required.
