This role leads critical care nursing services in close partnership with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional, high-acuity care. The position is responsible for building and advancing a high-performing critical care service line that reflects Valley wise Health’s mission and values. Working with key stakeholders, this leader helps set the strategic direction for critical care, brings plans to life, and supports the growth and visibility of services.

The role focuses on strengthening care across the continuum by improving patient flow, clinical outcomes, patient experience, and operational efficiency in fast-paced, high-risk environments. The position oversees daily critical care operations, ensuring safe, evidence-based care; regulatory compliance; responsible financial performance; and strong engagement and satisfaction among patients and staff. Success in this role depends on leading change through collaboration, clinical credibility, and influence rather than authority.

Qualifications Education
  • Requires a master’s degree in nursing or
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master's degree in a related field or must obtain a master's degree within four (4) years from the job’s start date.
Experience
  • Must have a minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible clinical experience within the service line that demonstrates a high level of understanding of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Experience must include demonstrated leadership ability, preferably working in a related management position in a healthcare setting.
Certification / Licensure
  • Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, temporary AZ RN license, or valid compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
  • Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing.
  • A BLS card obtained through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center will be required within 3 months.
  • ACLS, PALS, ATNC, or other certifications may be required.
  • In addition, certification or continuing education may be required based on area of practice:
    • Adolescent BH:
      Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
    • FQHC Administration:
      Must have a valid fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety or submit a completed Affidavit at the time of hire. Must complete fingerprint clearance card application within seven (7) days of hire date. Must present actual card within ninety (90) days of applying for a fingerprint clearance card.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have demonstrated competence in service line management, streamlining, and coordinating clinical services beyond traditional discipline boundaries and department-specific performance improvement, including integrating clinical, quality, and financial outcomes.
  • Requires demonstrated experience in facilitating and implementing a strategic planning process with specific outcomes.
  • Must have previously demonstrated experience in leading a successful change process with a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians and healthcare providers and demonstrated knowledge of managing and meeting budget outcomes.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must be a successful leader of people, have strong leadership skills, and the ability to motivate a team.
  • Must be able to decide how to allocate people, time, and other resources to create, execute, and accomplish an operating or project plan on time and within budget.
  • Must have solid analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to utilize the appropriate management techniques to plan, organize, control, and coordinate activities.
  • Must be able to manage priorities in a dynamic environment and adapt to change quickly and positively.
  • Must demonstrate ability to be self-directed and excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work as a team member with peers, other managers, staff, and senior leadership.
  • Must possess good customer service and communications skills, the ability to work with professionals, and maintain confidentiality standards.
