Position Highlights
University Animal Care, with the University of Arizona, is responsible for providing the highest quality humane care to a variety of species of animals used in biomedical research. The Animal Technician III will provide daily care for research animal species, handle animals exposed to hazardous materials, perform cage wash duties, operate complex equipment, and maintain detailed documentation. Work is performed under minimal supervision with a schedule that includes animal care holiday rotation, weekends, and potential overtime.
UAC manages multiple animal facilities, oversees campus‑wide animal care and use programs, ensures humane and appropriate animal care, maintains a safe environment, and holds AAALAC accreditation.

Duties & Responsibilities- Provide care to laboratory rodents: feed, water, change cages, and conduct health assessments daily.
- Perform basic breeding colony tasks, such as separating breeders and weaning litters.
- Conduct cage wash duties: bagging, consolidating caging for recycle, trash removal, disinfection of carts/racks, and setting up clean caging for use.
- Administer treatments to animals as prescribed by veterinarians and assist in training new and existing employees in routine animal care procedures.
- Complete daily documentation, including notifications to investigators about weans, arriving animals, animal deaths, and to vet services for sick animals.
- Notify managers regarding room issues, rack problems, flooded cages, and other observations.
- Fill out cage cards for weaned or split cages, process strips, record information on dead animals, and complete environmental assessment sheets for each room.
- Submit recharge information to the business office and maintenance requests.
Skills And Abilities
- Apply general knowledge of the organization, job content, practices, and procedures to be proficient in all aspects of the job.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, time‑management skills, and computer skills.
- Perform work requiring continuous bending, stooping, twisting, standing, walking, and repetitive hand motion such as changing cages.
- Medically cleared to wear a respirator.

Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalency required.
