Pay Grade: Non Exempt Salary Schedule (Grade H1)

Department: Nutrition Services

Accountable To: Nutrition Services Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Creation/Revision Date: July 10, 2019

Summary: The Nutrition Services Unit Leader's responsibilities, under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, include overseeing operations of the production kitchen, coordinating the work of the kitchen staff, and completing daily paperwork.

Essential Functions:

  • Follows standardized operating procedures, standardized recipes, menu notes, and production plans.
  • Performs cleanup, including dishwashing, cleaning tables and preparation areas, cleaning equipment, disposing of unsalvageable food, and removing garbage from the kitchen.
  • Practices safe food handling according to HACCP, Maricopa County Health Department, and WESD Nutrition Services Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Completes production records, HACCP logs, and equipment temperature logs daily.
  • Assists food service managers with inventory and weekly food deliveries.
  • Obtains required hours of Professional Standard training as mandated by USDA for National School Meal Programs.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Food Employee Certificate
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of Food Service experience

Knowledge and Skills Required:

Skills required for this position include:

  • Knowledge of appropriate food preparation techniques;
  • Ability to work rapidly and efficiently;
  • Understanding of food service equipment use and care;
  • Basic mathematics skills including money and food measurement conversions;
  • Ability to read and write in English;
  • Knowledge of National school meal requirements;
  • Knowledge of food safety and HACCP procedures;
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places and outdoor weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
