American Motion Systems | Remote, U.S. | 35-40% travel | Full-time
Most sales roles hand you a territory. This one hands you two marquee accounts with some of the most exciting companies in space, and the chance to build a sales function from the ground up.
As American Motion Systems’ first dedicated, full-time salesperson, you’ll own and grow those accounts, open doors with NEW SPACE and aerospace companies, and help a respected American motor manufacturer reach its 2030 growth goals. American Motion Systems’ step motors, BLDC and frameless BLDC motors, torque rods, and reaction wheels fly in space and power mission-critical applications, built to ISO 9001 and AS9100D standards.
You’ll own the sales cycle from first contact through specifications, quoting, and proposals, backed by their applications and design engineers, then hand awarded programs to engineering and customer service. Expect about 70% account growth and 30% new business for the first six months, moving to an even split after that.
Here’s what you’ll build and how your first year could unfold:
- Month 1:
Learn the product and the people. Spend 2-3 weeks at the California HQ in product immersion with the President and Engineering, and learn their quoting, pricing, lead times, and quality standards. By week 3, you’re on the weekly calls with both key accounts and attending every customer kick-off. - Months 2-3:
Get in front of customers. Travel with the President and COO to key accounts, profile every current customer, and start profiling target companies. By day 90, you’ve met decision-makers at 5+ target accounts, have 3+ opportunities in specifications, sampling, or quoting, and present your sales plan for the next six months. - Months 4-6:
Run the cycle on your own. Go into accounts independently, build relationships across engineering, program management, procurement, and executives, and work four trade shows a year. By month 6, you have 7+ active opportunities, 25+ target companies, your first new-customer PO or foothold (approved vendor status, design-in, or pilot order), and a roadmap to $50M in revenue and a $100M pipeline. - Months 7-12:
Turn footholds into programs. Convert early wins into repeat, program-level business while growing key accounts, and write the sales playbook future hires will use. By month 12, you’ve met or exceeded $1M in new-business invoiced revenue, with orders on the production floor.
This role isn’t for you if:
- You want quick, transactional wins. American Motion Systems’ sales cycles run 6-18 months or longer, and one-off orders under $100K aren’t the focus.
- You need a playbook already in place. You’re their first full-time salesperson, so you’ll build the process as you go.
- You’d rather leave the technical conversation to engineers. You’ll need to hold your own with customer engineers and know when to bring American motion Systems’ team in rather than overpromise on performance, pricing, or lead times.
What you need for this job:
- You’ve sold engineered products for 7+ years. B2B technical sales of engineered components, motors, motion control, automation, or related products, both opening new business and growing existing accounts.
- You’ve won and grew big accounts. You’ve won and grown $5M–$10M+ accounts with large, high-growth enterprise customers, and can share the numbers: account revenue, deal sizes, quota, and attainment.
- You’ve navigated long, complex sales cycles. 6-18 months or longer, with multiple stakeholders, supplier onboarding, and procurement at large organizations.
- You’re technically credible. Strong mechanical aptitude and a working understanding of motion control, with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- You bring relationships. Existing relationships in…
