• Provide a professional level of customer service and security presence on Mayo Clinic property and security-sensitive areas.
• Proactively patrol facilities, assist visitors, patients and staff, and help prevent or deter fires, theft, vandalism, illegal entry, and other incidents.
• Utilize security vehicles as needed; enforce Mayo policies; respond to complaints and service calls for wrongdoing; prepare incident reports and activity logs; may work in Security control centers.
• Adapt to unpredictable and stressful situations; manage altercations and emergency crises in a professional manner; operate a two-way radio; exercise good judgment, tact and diplomacy.
• Conduct and support emergency evacuations, including evacuations in stairwells and use of evacuation devices; assist with patient, visitor and staff safety during emergencies.
• Collaborate with other emergency responders, including law enforcement and fire/rescue personnel; work nights and weekends as required.
• May be required to carry and deploy a taser.

• High school degree or GED required.
• Associate’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security, or related field preferred; minimum two years of experience in customer service, military, security, or a similar role; healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience in patrolling, incident reporting, defensive tactics, emergency response, door access, and CCTV operation; proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office; technical aptitude with Security Technology preferred.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and in a team; strong written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and communicate effectively in a courteous, professional manner; maintain professional appearance; ability to restrain potentially violent individuals and remain calm during emergencies.
• Must participate in routine training and development programs; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; obtain IA HSS Healthcare Security Officer certification within 6 months; obtain AVADE and CPR/AED certification within 6 months of hire.
