MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR UPCOMING PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT TEST! Successful candidates will also be physically fit and able to maintain sufficient physical fitness to successfully pass the upcoming Cooper Institute Physical Fitness Assessment Test (1.5 mile run, push-ups, sit-ups, vertical jump, and 300 meter run) before selection to the Tactical Officer Certification Course and on a bi-annual basis to retain employment in the Tactical Operations Unit (TOU).

This team works 12 hour shifts (for both days and nights), with an 18% night shift differential when you work a minimum of 2 hours in the night shift window from 7pm to 7am.

DAY

SHIFTS:

Shift A:
Sun-Wed 6 am-6 pm, then ½ Wed 6 am-12 noon.
Shift B: Wed-Sat 12 noon-6 pm, then Thu-Sat 6 am-6 pm.

NIGHT

SHIFTS:

Shift C:
Sun-Wed 6 pm-6 am, then ½ Wed 6 pm-12 midnight.
Shift D: Wed-Sat 12 midnight-6 am, then Thu-Sat 6 pm-6 am.

Night shift differential: 18%.

Requirements: Candidates must have at least 3 years of law enforcement or military experience, or seven years of hospital security experience. Must meet minimum qualifications and complete Banner Health’s Tactical Officer certification training upon hire. Ability to demonstrate and use required competencies annually. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to perform physical requirements and pass related testing. Capabilities will be demonstrated through similarly related skills testing.

Fingerprint Clearance Card required at time of hire and maintained during employment. Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must sign a Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.

Position Summary: Assigned primarily to the Emergency Department, serving as the first responder to violent and dangerous security incidents throughout the facility and campus. Will direct security response to violent incidents involving non-patients, serve as primary liaison with law enforcement during critical incidences, assist with patrol functions, ensure welfare and safety of personnel and patients, investigate critical incidents, provide security assistance to employees, patients and visitors, and secure doors as needed.

Core Functions:

  • Apprehends suspects in cases of conflict, escalation or unauthorized entry; conducts investigations and prepares investigative reports.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact with law enforcement during critical incidents.
  • Monitors situations, assesses appropriate response, and applies critical thinking in emergencies.
  • Patrols facility buildings and grounds for unauthorized persons, fires and unusual occurrences; reports emergencies immediately.
  • Utilizes verbal de-escalation techniques and security skills in security, emergency and conflict situations.
  • Investigates and documents complaints and incidents; maintains an accurate shift log.
  • escorts patients, visitors and employees as needed and assists medical staff in restraining and handling disturbed patients.
  • Enforces security rules, conducts patrols, reacts quickly in emergencies, communicates effectively, and prepares concise incident reports. Acts as a point of contact for other officers as needed.
  • Position reports to Security Director; interacts with staff, physicians, visitors, volunteers and patients; may be assigned to any Banner facility as needed.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and professional standards. Delivers excellent service by demonstrating core and leader behaviors daily.

Minimum Qualifications:
