Community Service Officer II (Phoenix, AZ) Position Highlights

The University Police Department is seeking a Community Service Officer for the Phoenix area. Community Service Officers maintain security and safety of people and property on the University of Arizona Phoenix‑metro area campuses by patrolling in marked department vehicles and enforcing University rules and regulations. They conduct directed and self‑initiated patrols to detect and report suspicious and criminal activity to Dispatch and other field personnel.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Patrol campus on foot, bicycle or marked vehicle, checking for fires, vandalism, suspicious activity or persons, and safety/fire hazards. Situations requiring additional assistance will be referred to police. Monitors camera footage for criminal activity and reports findings to police.
  • Responds to emergency calls for service such as blue light phones, medical injuries and emergencies, minor theft reports, fires, and criminal damage.
  • Completes police reports on minor incidents that do not involve felony investigations, including stolen property, found property, lost property, and criminal damage.
  • Activity is driven by the occurrences during the designated shift. Any pertinent information will be shared via pass along briefing/email with other shifts.
  • Greet, welcome, and provide exceptional customer service to all.
  • Provide directions and other general informational needs.
  • Perform door assists and other security‑related escorts on campus.
  • Assist with special events.
  • Lock and unlock doors upon request and according to schedules provided by Room and Course.
  • Maintain secure storage of evidence and found property per department policy.
  • Perform safety inspections at designated intervals and submit work orders for repair/replacement as needed.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Skill in observing situations and detail oriented.
  • Skill in talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts/days off and work holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent learning attained through experience required (GED).
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required. Department will consider any relevant volunteer, internship, or applicable experience as it relates toward the position.
  • Successfully pass an in‑depth background investigation to include passing a polygraph examination.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

Non‑Exempt, Full Time, 40 hours per week, Job FTE 1, Job Category Protection and Safety, Benefits Eligible:
