As a Banner K-9 Officer you, and your K-9 partner, will respond to emergency situations, help to provide safety and security for staff, patients and visitors, as well as patrol service areas including hospital campus and ancillary sites such as urgent cares and outpatient facilities. You will take your K-9 partner home with you, so it's important for you to have a place of residence and transportation that would allow for a large animal crate (a home-check will be completed during the screening process).

Schedule:
Wednesday 12pm - 6:00pm, Thursday - Saturday 6:00am - 6:00pm
Must have proper facilities at place of residence and transportation to ensure the health and well-being of the K9, including room to store a kennel. Must agree and sign K9 Conditions Agreement, Education Loan Agreement, and Promissory Note.

This position tours the facilities and grounds with a trained canine (K9); assists with the welfare and safety of personnel and patients; investigates critical incidents; assists employees, patients and visitors; interfaces with emergency response agencies; secures doors; monitors parking and traffic control. Performs assigned security duties promptly and accurately. The officer and K9 work as a team and supports security duties by using the K9 for searching, crowd control, detecting explosives, and as a deterrent for violent confrontations through the K9's presence or physical abilities.
This position may serves as the Lead Officer (i.e. OIC) on an assigned shift or at an assigned location, which includes acting as a resource to other officers, coordinating their activities and assisting the supervisor. Works varied assignments and shifts.
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and be customer service oriented in all contacts with patients, visitors and staff.
- As a team, the officer and K9 tours and inspects facility and grounds frequently to assist in maintaining a safer and more secure environment. Assists employees with security related matters and enforces parking regulations and traffic control. Responds to all emergency codes for assistance and control.
- Investigate and complete written reports of complaints, critical security incidents and unusual activities involving patients, employees and visitors; submits all reports to the security leadership by the end of the shift in which the report occurs. Maintain an accurate log of all relevant security activities during each shift. Maintain accurate K9 training logs and monthly activities.
- Locks and unlocks facility doors at prescribed times. Checks unoccupied areas and sets the alarms when appropriate. Does valuable pick-ups from departments, logs pick-ups and successfully delivers the contents to the appropriate destination department. Releases bodies from the morgue, ensuring that all paperwork is complete. Checks alarms to ensure they are in proper working order. Escorts patients, visitors and employees. Assist clinical staff with patient room searches and in restraining and handling disruptive patients.
- Presents a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Follows instructions and is aware of and follows safe work practices. Must satisfactorily complete competencies as required by the department during the conditional period. Is able to demonstrate and successfully use all required competencies annually. Completes defensive tactics satisfactorily, OC pepper spray, and nonviolent crisis intervention programs annually.
