The Field Service Technician (NETA
4) is a project supervising technician responsible for performing complex investigations, tests, measurements, and evaluations. The role involves recommending corrective actions, interacting with engineers and managers, and testing for de-energized locked out/tagged out equipment. The technician sets up and removes test equipment, understands hazardous electrical energy procedures, maintains records, ensures safety of others, performs switching and testing activities, conducts safety grounding, interacts with other skills and operations, writes and reviews reports, and performs troubleshooting.
The technician can work independently.
- Monitors project progress and assigned NETA field technicians. Responsible for project success from start to finish, including the final report.
- Supervises large crews and ensures efficient and safe work practices.
- Perform complex electrical tests and measurements and collect and record data accurately.
- Lead and manage projects, ensuring successful execution from start to finish. Monitor project progress and supervise NETA field technicians.
- Perform troubleshooting of electrical systems and recommend corrective actions.
- Write and review detailed reports on test results and findings, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Satisfactory background/MVR check.
- Pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and/or random drug testing as required.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Basic understanding of electrical theory.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including verbal and written communication.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail.
- High school diploma/GED required;
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year technical college preferred. - NETA certification level 4 preferred.
- 10+ years of experience.
- OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED, Power DB training a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Willingness to work occasional overtime as needed.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must wear mandated PPE including arc-flash suit, safety glasses, hard hat, respirator, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb, pull, push, sit, and work in confined spaces.
- Exposure to conditions such as dirt, heat, fumes, smoke, water, noise, vibration, grease, oil, and dust.
