Are you the kind of engineer who enjoys working close to the operating system, building software that runs on thousands of customer machines, and solving difficult networking and security problems?
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help shape the future of a rapidly growing Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) platform. You'll join a small, highly technical team building secure networking technology that allows customers to access private resources without port forwarding, public IP exposure, or traditional VPN complexity. This role will play a key part in evolving today's tunneling solution into a full Zero Trust platform with identity-based access, end-to-end encryption, and network intelligence capabilities.
WhatYou’ll Work On
You'll be building and maintaining cross-platform software that runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux
, including:
- High-performance Rust services and background daemons
- Secure tunneling and remote access technologies
- Identity-based device enrollment and authentication
- End-to-end encrypted connectivity
- Multi-platform installers, packaging, code signing, and updates
- Service-to-service messaging and client/server communication
- Monitoring, health checks, presence detection, and network insights
- Reliability improvements for software running on real-world customer networks
You'll work closely with product, backend, and web engineering teams while helping define how AI-assisted software development is used within a security-focused engineering environment.
Why This Role Is DifferentThis isn't another backend API job.
You'll help build software that sits directly on customer devices and networks. The team already has strong Rust expertise, but they're specifically looking for someone who can bring experience and technical leadership around Zero Trust Networking, secure access architectures, VPN alternatives, tunneling technologies, or related networking infrastructure. The right person has an opportunity to become a key subject matter expert as the platform grows.
WhatWe’re Looking For Required
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 2+ years of production Rust experience
- Deep understanding of async Rust, concurrency, cancellation, and service life cycles
- Experience shipping and supporting long-running client software
- Windows systems programming experience
- Strong networking fundamentals including:
- TCP/IP
- DNS
- HTTP
- IPv4/IPv6
- Network resiliency and retries
- Experience with packaging, installers, code signing, and software distribution
- Experience using AI development tools such as Claude Code or similar
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)
- VPN or remote access technologies
- Network security infrastructure
- Identity and access management systems
- Linux and macOS systems development
- RPC frameworks or message-bus architectures
- Applied cryptography
- DNS, DDNS, router, or networking products
- Experience at companies such as Cloudflare, Tailscale, Net Foundry, ngrok, or similar networking-focused organizations was specifically identified as highly relevant.
- Remote throughout the United States or Canada
- Occasional travel for team collaboration
- Preference for candidates located within or near Pacific Time Zone working hours
- Base salary target: $145,000-$160,000
- Additional annual performance bonus up to 8%
- 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage
- 401(k) with match, generous PTO, paid holidays, and professional development support
Exceptional candidates with highly relevant Zero Trust or networking expertise may be considered above the target range.
Ideal BackgroundsYou may be a great fit if you've worked on:
- Zero Trust networking platforms
- VPN infrastructure
- Remote connectivity solutions
- Network security software
If you love Rust, networking, security, and building software that operates at the intersection of operating systems and infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
