Job Description:
This is a full-time Program Specialist for our military & other recreation programs at the Ability
360 Sports and Fitness Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Military Membership retention and recruiting.
- Outreach scheduling to various VSO partners and organizations.
- Outreach VSO’s and other partners for new members.
- Conduct military member appreciation day events as well as military incentive programs.
- Leads the coordination, facilitation of health and wellness programs for military members.
- Assist the Program Coordinator in supervising interns and volunteers.
- Support the ongoing training and professional development of therapeutic recreation volunteers and interns.
- Promote Sports & Fitness programs and provide accurate program information to members.
- Support outreach, membership retention, events, and programming for military members and their families.
- Lead staff for field trips.
- Conduct member assessments and maintain ongoing progress notes and evaluations.
- Address member questions and concerns related to programs and facility operations.
- Maintain communication with members, members’ parents and/or guardians.
- Work with manager and marketing staff to promote Ability
360 Sports & Fitness Center programs. - Lead regularly scheduled classes and specialized classes as needed.
- Maintain, organize, and care for program equipment.
- Purchase routine program supplies and recommend larger equipment or program purchases.
- Assist team members during events, field trips, and classes.
- Serve as Manager-on-Duty when assigned.
Sssist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic recreation and adaptive sports programs. - Maintain ongoing communication with university programs nationwide to develop and sustain a strong internship program.
- Collaborate with community organizations to offer diverse and inclusive recreation opportunities.
- Act as a liaison between specialty groups and the Sports & Fitness department to coordinate and implement group-specific programming.
- Actively promote the facility and its programs to current and prospective members and assist with the development of promotional materials.
- Work collaboratively with coordinators and staff to plan programs and special events.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Recreation Therapy, Adapted Physical Education, Sports Management, Kinesiology or related field.
- 1-3 years of professional experience working with people with disabilities in the recreation field.
- Ability to provide supervision for therapeutic recreation programs and interns.
- Program experience to include working with individuals that have a wide variety of abilities; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to perform the above-described duties.
