This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on and commercially focused finance professional to take full ownership of the finance function across a growing group. Offering a competitive package with salary up to £70,000 (inclusive of £6000 car allowance) and clear scope to add value, this role would suit someone who is practice-trained and looking for their second or third move in industry - ready to step into a senior finance role and make a real impact.
Reporting to the Finance Director, the Financial Controller will:
Oversee all finance operations across the group, ensuring robust financial control, accurate reporting, and effective cashflow management.
Lead and develop a small finance and systems team—providing hands-on support where needed while driving best practice and process improvement.
Produce monthly management accounts with insightful analysis and commentary for the Board and Senior Leadership Team.
Deliver budgeting, forecasting, and ad-hoc financial analysis to support commercial decision-making and business performance.
Oversee payroll, VAT, and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency.
Partner with Directors and operational managers to provide commercial insight around costs, margins, and productivity.
Review and enhance financial systems and processes to improve reporting capability and support business growth.
Lead the preparation of statutory accounts and coordinate the annual audit with external auditors.
The ideal candidate will:
Be ACA or ACCA qualified, practice-trained, with proven success in a Finance Manager or Financial Controller role.
Have a strong technical background with hands-on experience in management accounting, costing, and financial reporting.
Be highly proficient in Excel and experienced with systems such as Sage, Xero, or SAP.
Be confident working across multiple sites, with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Be commercially astute, proactive, and adaptable—able to balance day-to-day finance operations with strategic leadership responsibilities.
This position is based in Pickering, North Yorkshire, and is easily commutable from Malton, York, Scarborough, Driffield, Pocklington, and Thirsk.
