Compensation:
$27.58/hour (inclusive of Provincial Wage Enhancement Grant)
The Position:
Reporting to the Supervisor, the Registered Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the overall learning and care of the children in the program. With a sound knowledge of child development, the Registered Early Childhood Educator will develop and implement programs, maintain safe environments, work collaboratively with families and the community, maintain professional relationships, uphold professional standards, and adhere to all regulations that pertain to the Registered Early Childhood Educator and the delivery of licensed childcare.
Responsibilities- Ensures all children and families are provided with a high-quality childcare experience, and provides ongoing support to families
- Maintains an inclusive environment where children, families, and co-workers feel a sense of belonging
- Plans and implements a play-based program that is responsive to the observed interests and developmental needs of the children, while integrating the Provincial framework “How Does Learning Happen?”
- Completes all required documentation of children’s development and interactions
- Adheres to all requirements outlined in the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA), and all SPC Policies and Procedures
- Acts with integrity and adheres to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice (College of Early Childhood Educators) within their workplace and the community
- Attends and fully participates in all employee orientation, training, meetings, and family events as outlined by the Supervisor
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent planning and program facilitation skills
- Ability to develop rapport, meet the individual needs of children and positively manage group behaviour
- Excellent collaboration and team skills
- Effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
- Professional work ethic and ability to maintain confidentiality
Education and Experience
- College Diploma or University Degree in Early Childhood Education, and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Valid up to date Standard First Aid with CPR C (prior to the start of the position)
- Experience working with children & families within a recreational or licensed childcare setting
- Solid understanding of child development and ability to effectively respond to individual needs
- Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
