Project Overview
VINCI Construction Grands Projets Canada, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction Grands Projets, part of the VINCI Group, a construction worldwide leader specializing in the design and construction of major civil engineering and building works in Canada, is hiring a Superintendent for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Program. The project involves designing and building a new deep‑water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant’s cooling system.

The scope includes a 1.5 km‑long tunnel built by a pressurized TBM (10.5 m diameter slurry TBM), two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore), and an offshore modular intake structure resting on the lake bed. The project’s proximity to an active nuclear site requires rigorous standards of safety, planning, and coordination.

Responsibilities
The Superintendent will provide on‑site coordination of all construction activities while ensuring the proper implementation of safety protocols, collaborating with stakeholders across the project to meet key milestones and maintaining accurate records of construction activities and costs.

Key Tasks

Supervise subcontractor teams within the area of control

Ensure that HSE is always guaranteed by enforcing a safe work environment, implementing and monitoring safety protocols, and conducting regular safety inspections to prevent accidents and mitigate risks

Manage and coordinate all construction activities on the project, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulations

Monitor the quality of work performed on‑site to ensure adherence to industry standards, project requirements, and best practices

Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and stakeholders to develop and implement construction schedules, work plans, and resource allocation to meet project milestones and objectives

Identify and address any issues or obstacles that may arise during the construction process, employing effective problem‑solving skills to maintain project progress and minimize delays

Maintain accurate records of construction activities, including daily reports, progress updates, and any changes or deviations from the original plans; provide regular reports to project management and stakeholders

Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment, and assist in managing the project budget, seeking cost‑effective solutions without compromising quality and safety standards

Review construction documentation (including the Safe Work Plan, JHA, Safety Plan)

Coordinate activities required for site possession, including documentation and OPG’s permits

Qualifications

A degree or diploma in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field is preferred

A proven track record of at least 10‑15 years as a Superintendent, preferably on Ontario Power Generation sites

Experience with earthworks and utility relocation

Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, codes, and regulations

Excellent leadership and team‑management abilities, with the capacity to motivate and guide a diverse workforce

Effective verbal and written communication skills to liaise with team members, stakeholders, and subcontractors

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to address construction challenges and provide practical solutions

In‑depth knowledge of construction safety practices and regulations, with a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment

Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced construction environment

Proficiency in using construction management software, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications
