What is the project?The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will doThe QC Advisor is responsible for the management of on-site quality control and quality inspections. Reporting to the Quality Director, they will provide guidance to construction teams, establish organizational and control procedures while documenting non-conformities and their resolution.
Concretely, your tasks will be:- Participate in establishing, maintaining and improving the Quality Control Management on site
- Organise and participate in quality inspections in accordance with the schedule
- Control, coordinate and monitor quality issues in cooperation with the relevant services
- Establish organisational and control procedures
- Support the Quality Director in reviewing WMS and their ITPs
- Ensure compliance with plans, specifications, applicable codes, and jurisdictional requirements
- Adhere to the project scope, schedule, inspection, testing, and develop quality documentation while organising and maintaining inspection and testing documentation
- Provide guidance to construction supervision and crafts regarding the project specific quality process and to ensure the requirements of the ITP are met
- Report and document non-conformance when they occur and assist in ensuring rework is tracked
- Coordinate with third party testing agencies and ensure that status logs are maintained
- Review and approve all third-party test results for compliance with project requirements
- Identify safety hazards and take all necessary corrective actions to eliminate hazards
- Respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices (i.e. different colored warning tags, warning)
- Ensure adherence to lockout/tag-out procedures
- Coordinate system turnover activities with project teams and assist in assembling turnover
- Abachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or a related field
- 15 years of experience in Quality Control on major projects in the GTA
- In-depth knowledge of ISO standards and QHSE regulations applicable to large construction projects
- Heightened ability to conduct inspections, tests, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards
- Capacity to monitor the implementation of QHSE procedures
- Proficiency in audits, scheduling, reporting, and closure of findings
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations
- Flexibility to quickly adapt to a variety of situations
- Gross annual salary between 110K and 140K, depending on experience and profile
