What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
What you will do:
The Field Engineer is responsible for the redaction of construction documentation, ensuring coordination between work zones and compliance of HSE plan. They will work with the site team and subcontractors to validate that they are working with the latest approved documents and communicate any deviations.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
- Responsible for portion of construction on the Project, such as a section, work area, structure or work zone
- Redaction of construction documentation (Work Plan, JHA, Specific Safety Plan)
- Participate in weekly subcontractor works meetings to plan construction activities and update the schedule
- Enhance coordination between the allocated work zone and the other work zones adjacent
- Ensure the site team and subcontractors are working with latest approved documents
- Record and alert on progress of the works, as well as any deviations observed during construction work
- Propose and implement corrective actions
- Participate in QHSE meetings and QHSE programs, motivate the personnel and ensure that staff follow the QHSE policies
- Ensure compliance of the works with the safety recommendations and the measures stipulated in the Health Safety Environment Plan. Must stop the works any time there is a risk for personnel injury
- Acknowledgment of subcontractor planning and alerting on subcontractor deviations
- Participate in formulating the operating procedures, coordination meetings, 3-week lookahead schedules and other project construction meetings
- Submit documents constituting feedback relating to the works, in particular the daily reports
- Ensure compliance with protective measures including the regular cleaning of work areas, and the sorting and removal of wastes for treatment, in accordance with the Environmental Management and Waste Management Plans
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- Minimum of 3–5 years experience in the construction industry, preferably on large infrastructure projects in the GTA
- Site production and management experience
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Adaptable to new environments
- Strong capacity for teamwork
- Initiative, resourcefulness and autonomy
- Gross annual salary between 85K and 105K, depending on experience and profile
