What is the Opportunity?

Can Atom, a joint venture between Atkins

Réalis and Aecon, is delivering the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Refurbishment Project under a collaborative contract with Ontario Power Generation. The joint venture is underway to complete the retube, feeder, and boiler replacement (RF ) of Units 5–8. Building on the successful delivery of the Darlington Refurbishment Project, the Can Atom team brings proven experience in safely executing complex nuclear projects on time and on budget to support Ontario’s clean energy future.

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Advisor reports to the EHS Director through the Departmental Lead(s) and is responsible to provide health and safety advice and assistance to the projects Line Supervisors. The EHS Advisor will audit the Project EHS Programs and work with the line organization to develop corrective actions with the goal of continuously improving health and safety in the workplace.

You’ll Do Here
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including inspections, observation and coaching, WTCs and JHSCs.
  • Train project staff on the requirements of conventional safety procedures;
    Hot Work, Working at Heights, Dropped Object Prevention, Confined Spaces, Working on or around Electrical Equipment, Ergonomics, etc. must be met for employment.
  • Track and report safety‑related statistics, help manage Return to Work and review Modified duties cases at the field level.
  • Additional detailed requirements as outlined in the Project Specific EHS and related programs.
  • Complete in‑field observations and behavioral based observations.
  • Collect heat stress readings in the field, communicate potential high hazards and suggest controls to supervision and construction.
  • Assist in communicating safety messaging in project and safety meetings as needed.
  • Support Human Performance program activities.
  • Assist in development of Safe Work Plans, JSA, High Hazard Assessments, Critical Material Handling and Lift plans as well as provide feedback to supervisors on Pre Job Briefs and task assignment/assessment.
  • Complete site audits and provide feedback to EHS management on the status of the EHS management system.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Health and Safety within the construction industry. Relevant Post Secondary education or equivalent experience in the H&S field.
  • A designation such as CHSO, CRSP, CRST, or CSP is an asset.
  • Proficiency and Knowledge with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, Site Docs, Cority.
