Nuclear’s portfolio of building, refurbishing, maintaining, and decommissioning nuclear power facilities reflects a record of project success that ranges from small but essential maintenance contracts, to major construction endeavors. Aecon supports clients with expert project management to the most exacting standards.

Working with our joint venture partner Atkins Realis, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded the definition phase contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to assist in planning the Pickering Retube, Feeder and Boiler replacement (RF ) project. This project involves the refurbishment of four reactors and replacement of the forty eight steam generators at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.

Under the general direction of the Welding Program Lead and Welding Manager, the Welding Coordinator will work with a team of Welding Specialists and Welding Supervisors. The Project Coordinator will support the team and welding program by preparing welding documentation, training welding trades and supporting field readiness and execution.

Reporting to the Welding Program Manager the Welding Engineer will assist in the planning, organization, control, integration and completion of works related to the welding scope for the RF  project.

What You'll Do Here
  • Oversee technical aspects of projects and initiatives undertaken by the Reactor Building and Conventional team, specifically with regards to welding and construction.
  • Prepare Aecon Technical Specifications (ATS’s) or Proposal RFQ’s to support proposal or project execution.
  • Evaluate vendors’ quotations and recommend Vendor selection based on performance specifications, pricing and guarantees.
  • Knowledge of how to manage, implement, and provide technical guidance to execute procedure qualification records using ASME, CWB and/or AWS welding codes.
  • Review and produce technical documentation in relation to construction and welding sequencing.
  • Coordinate mechanical testing of PQRs, WPSs, WPQ and WMQs with local labs.
  • Make recommendations for continuous improvement of welding innovation at Aecon Nuclear.
  • Coordinate with Vendors to ensure timely and robust Non-Destructive Examination schedules required by the Project Specification and applicable Welding Codes and Standards.
  • Communicate with welding wire (consumable) and welding equipment vendors to review, assess, procure and commission welding related equipment.
  • Review code of construction and customer technical requirements to provide technically accurate direction.
  • Liaise with Aecon’s Welding Center of Excellence as needed to support construction welding initiatives.
  • Provide assurance that activities are performed in accordance with written and approved policy, standards, programs and applicable procedures.
  • Provide and ensure effectiveness of the liaison function between the designer and construction teams in terms of information flow and problem resolution.
  • Maintain high standards related to final product quality.
  • Own and manage Non-Conformance Reporting specifically to material and welding activities.
  • Be based on site to support the assembly and construction activities.
  • Carry out site safety inspections.
