BriefRole Description
The Head of NAR Insurance Finance is accountable for the overall financial performance and strategy for VWFS insurance in the North America Region (US & CAN). This role leads financial operations, including insurance P&L ownership, pricing oversight, risk governance, and IFRS 17 compliance. As a member of the board of VW Protection Services and Bottle BC Holding & Chairman of the Pricing Committee, the Head of NAR Insurance drives decisions on pricing, risk, and profitability.
The role also manages the insurance accounting function and coordinates with the shared accounting service of VWFS US.
- Lead the finance, insurance accounting, controlling, and pricing functions, building a high‑performing, financially disciplined team.
- Taking ownership of the insurance P&L, driving profitability through proactive pricing, claims monitoring, reserves steering, and capital oversight.
- Developing and leading the financial strategy for insurance, ensuring long‑term profitability, resilience, and regulatory compliance.
- Chairing the Pricing Committee, leading pricing decisions and overseeing risk‑based pricing strategies in alignment with actuarial and business targets.
- Overseeing financial risk models, monitoring historical portfolio performance, and leading claims forecasting, proactively adjusting performance trends.
- Ensuring full compliance with IFRS 17 and other regulations, driving accurate and transparent financial reporting.
- Overseeing planning, budgeting, and reporting cycles, delivering timely and reliable internal and external financial reports.
- Managing the relationship and Service Level Agreements (SLA) with the shared service provider responsible for entity‑wide accounting, ensuring seamless coordination with in‑house insurance accounting.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related quantitative field.
Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, or equivalent are preferred.
PreferredMaster’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration (MBA), or a related quantitative field.
Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, or equivalent are strongly preferred.
Additional training in insurance‑specific finance, risk management, or actuarial methods.
Executive education from a leading business school (e.g., INSEAD, Wharton) is advantageous.
Experience10–15 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role within the insurance or financial services sector.
Demonstrated experience overseeing pricing, underwriting alignment, and regulatory reporting in a complex, regulated environment.
Preferred Experience15+ years of total experience in finance, with at least 7–10 years in insurance or financial services, and 5+ years in a senior finance leadership role.
3–5 years of direct experience in managing insurance risks, pricing, and IFRS 17 implementation.
Skills- Extensive experience as CFO or senior financial leader in the insurance sector.
- Expertise in pricing, controlling, accounting, and risk management.
- Strong understanding and implementation experience with IFRS 17.
- Skilled in financial forecasting, innovation, and claims analytics.
- Proven leadership in cross‑functional and board‑level environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in automotive insurance environment.
- Experience as senior financial leader in a multi‑line insurance company with international operations or group reporting responsibilities.
- Proven track record of leading pricing transformation, IFRS 17 implementation, or integrating actuarial and financial functions.
- Prior oversight of shared service agreements, with success managing outsourced finance or accounting relationships.
- Experience serving on or advising a board of directors or audit committee, especially in regulated environments.
