Position Overview
The Asset Protection Specialist (APS) is primarily responsible for preventing financial loss caused by theft and fraud, organized retail crime, and supporting safety and environmental program compliance in their assigned store(s). The APS drives the execution of the company’s internal and external theft and fraud strategy and utilizes several tools to minimize loss. The APS maintains integrity, supports key AP and operational concerns of all associates, and remains focused on store‑specific business objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Communicate with APSS (Asset Protection Specialist Supervisor) and MAPM on internal and external investigations and physical security within the store.
- Maintain open communication with store management and associates; partner to drive AP issues and foster a shrink‑elimination culture.
- Participate in the In Focus program.
- Detain and interview shoplifting suspects per local laws and company procedures.
- Execute store safety programs, validate compliance with company safety, environmental, and security standards.
- Check and secure physical fixtures to deter theft/fraudulent activity.
- Document apprehensions, recoveries, preserve evidence, and interact with law enforcement.
- Represent the company professionally in court‑related procedures.
- Meet all Home Depot and AP training and certification requirements.
- Educate associates on shrink issues, internal/external theft, operational deficiencies, and physical security.
- Support the AP Team Plan, utilize CCTV, exception reports, and audit Electronic Article Surveillance systems.
- Conduct surveillance as required and perform building alarm system tests.
- Set challenging objectives, communicate expectations, and maintain a sense of urgency.
- Own initiatives and processes, and use financial metrics to measure performance.
- Make sound judgments and decisions, treat internal customers with responsiveness, demonstrate values, and form effective partnerships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication; strong negotiation skills.
- Analytical thinking, creativity, and problem‑solving ability.
- Leadership experience in complex projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Reports to Asset Protection Supervisor or District Asset Protection Manager.
Travel RequirementsSome travel required.
Physical Requirements- Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, moving merchandise and tools; climbing ladders.
- Extended standing and walking throughout store locations.
- Quick response to PA system announcements and customer service calls.
- Operating a computer and other technology.
- Flexible schedule; may include evenings and weekends.
- Warehouse environment that can be dusty and noisy.
- Doors often open, causing drafts and temperature changes.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1+ year experience as a retail‑related loss prevention investigator (or equivalent) preferred.
- Certification:
Valid security guard license and/or private investigator license, if applicable.
- Must have access to a vehicle and may need to travel to various stores in the market area.
- Bilingual in French/English is an asset.
The pay range for this position is between $22.00 - $24.00 per hour.
