Qualifications:

• 2 letters of recommendation (signed and dated within one year)
• Copy of Teaching credential, Pupil Personnel Services credential, or 30‑day emergency teaching permit
• CBEST verification (passing score) – if required

Senate Bill 1397 temporarily waives the Basic Skills Requirement for the initial issuance of a 30‑day Substitute Teaching Permit from January 1, 2023, through July 1, 2024. After July 1, 2024, to qualify for a 30‑day emergency teaching permit, you must have met the Basic Skills Requirement by one of the following: CBEST, CSET (Multiple Subject), CSU Placement Exam, SAT or ACT, College Board Advanced Placement Exam, Basic Skills Exam from another State, or Basic Skills Requirement by coursework.
