SDPB is a statewide joint radio and television network and South Dakota's NPR and PBS affiliates. We are seeking an energetic, organized, and goal-focused Associate Producer with strong writing, videography, editing, and lighting skills who can take a story from concept to completion.

This high-profile role on the SDPB Entertainment team will creatively tell stories across television, radio, and digital platforms for a statewide audience that values and supports exceptional local storytelling. The Associate Producer will write and produce stories for SD High School sports and activities coverage, as well as Dakota Life, SDPB's monthly magazine program. The position will also create engaging video packages covering arts, culture, entertainment, and other production topics for broadcast and digital platforms.

The Associate Producer will apply sound production techniques, evaluate and address lighting needs, set up appropriate lighting, and ensure effective shot composition and sequencing. The position is responsible for editing raw footage and audio into polished, complete packages ready for broadcast and digital distribution.

Success in this role requires the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a creative production team.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

The ideal candidate will be highly organized, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and adaptable in writing for television, radio, and digital platforms. Strong video and audio editing skills are essential, along with the ability to independently capture professional-quality video and audio. A degree in Journalism, Media Studies, or a related field is preferred. Additionally, a minimum of 2-3 years of full-time experience in television production and storytelling is beneficial.

Knowledge,

Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • social media platforms and the ability to creatively post and promote content;
  • Adobe Creative Suite or comparable video and audio editing software.
Skill to:
  • use lighting equipment effectively for video interviews;
  • write scripts and produce content for radio, television, and digital platforms.
Ability to:
  • identify compelling stories and develop them into features;
  • edit audio and video to create high quality storytelling packages;
  • operate professional video cameras;
  • travel overnight and throughout the state as required.
