005010] – Full-time contract contingent position located in the Midwest Region (Missouri, Kentucky, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota) in support of the U.S. Chemical Safety Board (CSB).

Pro Sidian is a management and operations consulting firm providing risk management, compliance, business process, IT effectiveness, energy & sustainability, and talent management services. This role is aligned under NAICS 541620 and may convert to a full-time W-2 position.

The CSB is an independent federal agency that investigates chemical incidents to determine causes and provides non-regulatory recommendations to facilities, regulators, and industry partners.

Location note:
Midwest Region (Missouri, Kentucky, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota).

Responsibilities

• Conduct chemical hazard assessments at incident sites in collaboration with the CSB investigation team; evaluate potential released chemicals; determine appropriate PPE and monitoring requirements.
• Develop and implement safe site entry plans with the CSB investigation team to ensure safe access to incident locations.
• Perform initial site assessments, monitor atmospheric conditions, and advise the CSB team on hazards, PPE, and safe site access.
• Provide continuous monitoring of atmospheric conditions, including hazardous chemicals, oxygen levels, and flammability during site entry activities.
• Prepare detailed closing reports summarizing monitoring activities, safety recommendations, and assessments made during deployments.

Qualifications

• Must be a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with a minimum of five years of CIH experience.
• Completion of at least 24-hour HAZWOPER training or superior equivalent.
• Respirator fit-testing for full-face, half-face respirators, and SCBA.
• Ability to arrive at incident sites within 48 hours of notification.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or related field.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in industrial hygiene, specifically involving hazardous chemical incidents.
• CIH certification is mandatory.
• Experience with emergency response and hazardous material handling preferred.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in chemical hazard assessments and site-specific safety planning.
• Strong knowledge of industrial chemicals, hazardous materials, flammable gases, and toxic substances.
• Excellent communication skills for collaboration with investigation teams and clear safety recommendations.
• Ability to operate and interpret monitoring equipment and perform site assessments in hazardous environments.
• Strong report-writing skills and ability to prepare comprehensive closing reports within deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Adobe, data analytics tools, and Visio preferred.
