DescriptionThe Summer Seasonal Wildland Fire Dispatcher works at Great Plains Interagency Dispatch Center, dispatching resources to all-hazard incidents for initial and extended attack, locally and potentially all over the United States or world.
The duties of this position are carried out under the supervision of a Wildland Fire Logistics Coordinator and federal Center Manager, on the initial attack floor at the Great Plains Interagency Dispatch Center, Rapid City, SD, which is a Federal facility.
Responsibilities- Will be required to answer phones, take messages, pass on messages, and follow instructions and protocol as required by the dispatch supervisor.
- Will be asked to determine the initial attack response and coordinate appropriate resources for all-hazard situations.
- Must maintain forms and records (daily logs, flight requests/schedules, resource orders, accounting codes, shift briefing logs, etc.).
- Will need to interpret maps including topographic maps for navigation, provide hazard locations using coordinate systems, and direct resources to hazard locations.
- Will monitor presume, prioritize, and coordinate radio traffic involving multiple frequencies.
- Must coordinate the initial response of tactical resources according to agency procedures.
- Will provide and coordinate logistical support for initial and extended attack.
- Will implement established emergency plans (crash rescue, medevac, search and rescue, law enforcement defi what commands).
- Will ensure appropriate documentation is completed in accordance with agency policy and coordinate extended attack support including resource mobilization according to local, regional, and national mobilization guidelines.
- Will organize resources from all functional areas including overhead, crews, equipment, aircraft, and supplies.
- Must evaluate safe and cost-effective results when mobilizing/demobilizing resources.
- Will be asked to provide resource information for intelligence reports.
- Will assign commercial and noncommercial flights for personnel/cargo.
- Possess ये working knowledge of computer software, such as the Microsoft Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Communicate clearly and effectively over the phone, in emails, instant messaging platforms, and on a two-way radio console.
- Excellent customer service skills.
The chosen applicant must be able to interpret and comprehend multiple agencies' policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public; exercise good judgment and remain calm in an emergency; develop relationships with local, state, and federal counterparts; communicate clearly and concisely; make decisions under pressure.
Other InformationApplicant must be able to work at a Reduce workstation for long periods of time in a high stress environment. Employees are occasionally required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
