Translator - Ixil

Overview

The Translator will provide Translation services for individuals with a language barrier. Translation will consist of but not limited to Education, legal, Medical, Environmental, and Social Services, etc.

This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse.

Key Responsibilities:

• Accurately translates spoken work situations like lectures, conversations, and meetings.
• Utilizes technology to transcribe spoken English in some settings.
• Reading an original document and translating it into the language required.
• Editing translated versions.
• Will need to be sensitive to the culture of the original languages and the target languages during the translation process.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications – Here’s What You Need:

• High School/BA Degree or equivalent in years of experience.
• Foreign Service Institute.
• Certified Translation Professional.
• ATA Certification.
• Translation Certifications.
• Experience with State Department experience/ refugees, FDA, Health & Human services, Medical, Legal, Housing Authority etc.
• Must be fluent in Ixil.
• Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.
• The ability to facilitate translation with discretion and impartiality.
• Proficiency in written communication.
• A wide breadth of knowledge in a variety of topics.
• Strong social awareness for interpretation with empathy and attentiveness.
• Cultural awareness when conducting translations within different regions.
• Physical stamina and dexterity for extended sessions.
• Must possess problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
• Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
• Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature.
• Must be a self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.

Reports to: Deputy Program Manager

• Professional remote environment.
• Must be able to be on-call. Translator will be notified within 48 hours of potential jobs.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties for extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
• Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at a computer screen.
• May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
• May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
• May be asked to work hours outside of normal business hours.

Pay Range

USD $65.00 - USD $80.00 /Hr.
