This position is responsible for managing a team of mental health, chemical dependency, and support staff to ensure proper behavioral health care for offenders with complex needs. Supervisors balance supervisory, administrative, and direct care demands in a challenging, ever-fluctuating environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervision and management of various behavioral health personnel.
- Administrative tasks that support the clinical team and the department.
- Provision of direct care services (such as groups, assessments, and individual sessions) to offender clients.
- Scheduling and/or participating in site-specific essential duties, such as continuous on-call coverage (this includes the utilization of telehealth technologies).
- Consultation with other corrections professionals as needed in order to address complex cases.
- Facilitation of meetings that promote team growth and collaborative problem solving.
- Supervision, coaching, and mentoring of staff via performance plans, reviews, and evaluations, per SD DOC regulations.
- Assistance with the resolution of complaints and grievances at the administrative level.
- Maintenance of important databases and statistical trackers.
- Ensuring that the site's Health Services Administrator (HSA) is notified of important issues and events.
- Applicants must have a graduate degree in counseling, psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or another related field.
- Applicants must be able to pursue CAC or LAC licensure (with assistance from the department) if not already credentialed in the addictions field.
- Previous experience with employee management or supervision is preferable.
- Previous experience working with justice-involved clients is desired.
- Ability to supervise and provide staff leadership to include staff development, mentoring, coaching, and performance evaluation.

Individuals selected for the position will have the opportunity to carry Oleoresin Capsicum (OC/pepper spray) if desired. If OC spray is carried, the staff carrying OC spray will be required to have direct (level
1) exposure during the training program. Individuals selected for the position must successfully complete a written and practical self-defense exam and successfully complete CPR to AHA guidelines – this includes successful completion of the practical/hands‑on portion as well as the written exam. Those selected for hire must possess the physical ability to successfully complete the practical self‑defense exam, which involves the following:
- Lift arms above head and kick as high as own waist;
- Stabilize another person to accomplish a controlled takedown;
- Use arms, palms of hands, and feet to deliver blows;
- Withstand impact (slow speed or with a safety bag) on own body from strikes/blows;
- Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for striking with foot or using a defensive tactic;
