AIRPORT ARFF/OPERATIONS/MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANPOSITION OPENING: AIRPORT ARFF/OPERATIONS/MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
The City of Pierre seeks a passionate individual to join our team in making Pierre one of the best communities in which to live, work, and play. Seeking a motivated, detail oriented self-starter to be a member of the team at the Pierre Regional Airport. The Airport serves the aviation-related needs of the state capital, its residents and the businesses of central South Dakota - playing a vital role in the state's economy and transportation system.
This position is responsible for providing general daily oversight of airside operations by monitoring overall airfield safety, performs vehicle and equipment maintenance, airfield lighting maintenance and performs aircraft rescue firefighter duties. Maintains lighting systems, vehicles, equipment, grounds, structures, pavement and turf. Assists in overseeing wildlife management at airport through annual training, assisting in depredation permits, and overseeing bird strike report program.
Maintains documentation and records of all actions taken on airfield to ensure compliance with FAA Part 139 certification requirements. Position works frequently without direct supervision. Self-motivation and attention to detail are critical as decisions made during performance of job duties can directly impact life safety of airport users.
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing specialized duties in the operations and maintenance of the municipal airport and for responding to aircraft fires and other emergencies.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Serves as Aircraft Rescue Firefighter as prescribed by FAA regulations Part 139.
- Responds to medical emergencies and provides emergency medical care.
- Maintains runways, taxiways, high voltage lines, lighting systems, safety areas, and navigational aids.
- Assists in ensuring compliance with applicable FAA regulations governing airport operations; performs airfield inspections; issues Notices to Airmen; monitors vehicular traffic; maintains required documentation.
- Coordinates and performs maintenance of airfield facilities, airport buildings, and equipment; maintains related documentation.
- Operates a variety of maintenance equipment, including front-end loader, runway broom, snow blower, mowers, etc.
- Uses firearms and explosive ammunition to control wildlife.
- Performs snow and ice removal on runways, taxiways, ramps, hangar areas, and public roads.
- Inspects and performs basic maintenance on airport vehicles and equipment.
- Performs and/or coordinates building maintenance duties, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, and janitorial services.
- Maintains supply inventory.
- Applies herbicides to control weeds.
- Attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of FAA rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of electrical and HVAC maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of plumbing repair and maintenance principles.
- Knowledge of specialized airport equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of emergency medical principles and practices.
- Knowledge of fire suppression and rescue techniques.
- Knowledge of airport emergency response principles and practices.
- Skill in the operation, repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles, heavy equipment and other equipment.
- Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in prioritizing and planning.
- Skill in problem solving.
- Skill in diagnosing equipment failures.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Airport Manager assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
